A
few years ago, I had a dream and life experience that I wish to share
with you about our 4 legged relative called the wolf.
It began when I was driving to work in a small northern community during wintertime. As I drove along, I came around a corner and sitting by the road side was a huge timber wolf. I slowed down but did not stop and we looked into each other eyes and it seemed to me that wolf was smiling at me. As I continued driving, I could see that wolf’s head swiveled and followed the course of my car. I thought to myself, “ it seems strange that wolf would be sitting by the road and did not move as my car and I approached him”. The next morning, as I again drove to work and came around the same corner, wolf was sitting in the same spot. Again, I slowed down and gazed into wolf’s eyes. They glowed with understanding and he seemed to smile at me again. It felt like he was wishing a good day and knew that something was going to happen. That night, as I went to sleep, I began dreaming and felt like I was being drawn into a teaching place where I would learn something very valuable and would enhance my life. In my dream, I came upon wolf in the same place and rather than just slowing my car down I stopped as wolf stood up as if waiting for me. As I stepped out of the car, wolf came up to me and said “ turning around man, you are to come with me, to a special council meeting with our relatives”, meaning with other 4 legged ones and the winged ones as well. Upon, saying this to me, wolf trotted into the bush (woods) and I proceeded to follow him. After, a bit, we came to a small clearing, where other 4 legged and winged ones were assembled. As, I walked into their circle, I could hear them speaking to me, greeting me and saying “ it has been a long time since we have seen you and share with you”. Upon hearing their voices, I went to each and greeted them and tears flowed from my eyes as I said that it was good to be with them again. When the greetings were over, my relatives began to share their teachings and concerns about the 2 legged ones, meaning, human beings and how they were getting further and further away from the circle of life, and were becoming more and more disconnected from things in the hoop of life. When this talking circle was complete, Wolf came to me carrying a bundle in his mouth and then proceeded to place it on the ground in front of me. I was told that this medicine bundle was very old and had been kept in a special place until now. Wolf told me that, the bundle was being given to me in order to help restore balance and harmony with all things. Wolf then said “ the meeting was over and he would take me back to my car”. I did not want to leave but to stay with my old friends but they told me as I left that we would meet again. Wolf guide me back to my car and again said “ we will meet again, continue with helping others and share the teachings with others. When I woke up in the morning, I felt a longing in my heart to with my relatives and was sad that I wasn’t with them. A few years later, at a gathering of our people (tribe), an woman Elder who shared teachings about wolf was invited to share those teachings with us. I had the opportunity to be able to spend time with her and shared my dream with her and asked her what did she feel that it meant. She told me that I was indeed given a gift to help others but didn’t know when I would receive the actual gift but as I continued to share the gift of helping and healing that it would come to me. So, ends this story of real life
and dream time experience and wolf was right as he came to me again
in a sweat lodge ceremony. One summer, as we completing a sweat ceremony, during that last and fourth round, a irregular shaped grandfather (stone) was the final stone to be bought into the lodge. He was a stone that had been picked from a sacred place called, Manitou Mountain, back on our homeland. He was cherry red from the heat of the fire and when placed into the sweat pit, he broke into a perfectly shaped cube. There were gasps of wonder and delight at seeing this happen as each person in the lodge could see different things in the stone. Some saw female dancers, others saw Elders in the stone and other things, which I cannot remember at this time. As for myself, as I gazed into the red hot stone, I saw the face of wolf and as I leaned closer to the stone, I was drawn into the stone with wolf and I felt myself being flowing through a tunnel that was filled with beautiful colored lights. At then end of the tunnel, it seemed like wolf and I were sitting on a ledge of a cave. Wolf looked at me and turned his head towards the outside of the cave. As I followed wolf’s gaze, I was filled with the beauty of the many star people who were sitting in the night sky. I am some what familiar with our star systems but these stars did not seem to belong to this world or place. It was a good and sweet feeling to experience the peace and harmony that I felt during that time. Then I felt like a rushing of
wind and I was drawn back into the tunnel and came back to awareness
with thud and was pushed back by the force of it. So, as wolf stated, he came again to show me and to teach me about the things in the hoop of life and I suspect he will always come back during my life here on Mother Earth and will come for me when it is my time to leave this world and travel to the spirit world.
